The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A is the top tier of professional football in Brazil and one of the leading leagues in South America. Established in its modern form in 1971, the competition brings together twenty clubs that compete in a round-robin system. Over time it has become a clear expression of Brazilian football tradition, known for its technical style, fast pace, and strong connection with supporters.

For many years Brazil did not have a unified national championship, and state competitions played the central role in the football calendar. As transport networks, media coverage, and national infrastructure developed, the need for a nationwide tournament became more evident. In 1959 the Taça Brasil was created, laying the foundation for a national competition. After several organisational changes, a full double round-robin format with a stable points system was introduced in 2003 and remains in place today.

Série A is organised by the Brazilian Football Confederation and operates under established professional regulations. The highest-ranked teams qualify for the main South American club competitions, the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, while the teams at the bottom of the standings are relegated to the second division. This structure keeps the competition competitive throughout the season.

CR Vasco da Gama

Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama operates as a multi-sport organisation whose structure extends beyond football alone. Since its foundation in Rio de Janeiro in 1898, the club initially began as a rowing institution before gradually expanding its activities over the following years.

The expansion came in 1915, when the football team Lusitânia Sport Club became part of the organisation. From that point, football became integrated into an already established structure that continued to include other disciplines as well. These include rowing, basketball, swimming, women’s football and beach football.

The club also maintains a youth academy focused on player development. Historically, Vasco da Gama became known for its more open approach towards participation regardless of race, social background or origin.

Clube Atlético Mineiro

Clube Atlético Mineiro traces its origins to 25 March 1908, when a group of students in Belo Horizonte founded a club under the name Athletico Mineiro Foot Ball Club. The organisation later adopted its current name, while the abbreviation CAM became widely established as a short form of the official title. The club remains based in the capital of Minas Gerais, one of the leading urban centres in southeastern Brazil.

The name Atlético Mineiro is the most commonly used, alongside the nickname Galo. The image of the rooster has long been associated with the team’s identity and consistently appears in its representation. This is reinforced by a recognisable visual style featuring black-and-white vertical stripes on the home kit and an all-white away version. The crest follows the same concept, combining a shield with the initials CAM and striped elements, topped by a gold star as part of the club’s visual identity.

Since 2023, the club has used Arena MRV as its home stadium. The venue is owned by Atlético Mineiro and is presented as a multi-purpose arena with modern features. Before moving there, the team played at several different stadiums, including Estádio Presidente Antônio Carlos, Independência and Mineirão.
